Barclays Bank gives Kshs. 6M towards Nairobi Innovation Week

The Barclays Bank of Kenya, the title sponsor for Nairobi Innovation Week 2017, has donated Kshs. 6M towards the annual event.

This is the third time the bank is supporting the Nairobi Innovation Week.

Speaking during the presentation of cheques by various organisations, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi thanked the bank for supporting the University of Nairobi, especially in the innovative initiatives. He observed that the objective of the Nairobi Innovation Week is to encourage public participation, showcase innovations by researchers and promote skills and provide support mechanisms for innovation.

This year’s Innovation Week has received sponsorship  from various government and corporate entities key among them is KCB Group (Kshs. 3 Million), Safaricom Limited (Kshs. 1 million), NIC Bank (Kshs.  250,000) ,Climate Change Innovations Center (Ksh. 500,000),  University of Nairobi Alumni Association ( Kshs.  500,000) and Techno Mobile who gave equipment for the youth competition. Other sponsors include UNICEF, Embassy of Finland, Uber Kenya, among others

The theme for the Nairobi Innovation Week 2017 is ‘Innovating to solve pressing local and global challenges.’ The event will be held on March 6-10, 2017 at the Great Court, Main Campus.

Some of the side events to be held include: workshops, seminars, hackathons, keynote speeches, entertainment, startups pitching sessions to investors, among others.
