Mean Machine shines during KUSA 7s Rugby Games.

The University of Nairobi Rugby Team, Mean Machine emerged second runners up during the recently concluded Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA 7s) that was held over the weekend in the event that saw Blak Blad, Kenyatta University rugby team emerge winners after beating Strathmore University 24-7. The two days event was held at the University of Nairobi sports ground from August 4-5, 2018.

Nick Wamburu, the Mean Machine rugby player emerged as the top scorer during the event and was honoured and given a medal for the wonderful performance during the tournament. He scored most tries.

The event brought together over 10 universities; Some of those who participated include; the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Cooperative University, Meru University, Dedan Kimathi University, Masinde Muliro University, Zetech University, Multimedia University among others.

During the pool games, Mean Machine had a walkover by beating Cooperative University 29-0 as Zetech University walloped Meru University 26-0 during the first day of the tournament dubbed KUSA7s. Later in the afternoon, Mean Machine beat Masinde Muliro University by 19-7.

The Plates Trophy was won by Dedan Kimathi University after beating Zetech University by 15-10 tries during the hard fought playoffs.  On the second day of the playoffs, Cooperative University beat Multimedia University by 20-10.

Mean Machine Shines at KUSA 7s

Speaking during the tournament, KUSA President, Mbabu Muriithi, observed that the players need to take the sport seriously as the university teams plays a bigger role in feeding the big clubs like Harlequin RFC ( Rugby Football Club), Impala RFC, Homeboyz RFC, Kenya Commercial Bank RFC, Mwamba RFC, Nondescripts RFC among others. It is from these big clubs that the national team is selected.

Mean Machine is a household name in rugby. They have won the Kenya Cup several times before including the years : 1977, 1989 and 1990.
