Prof. Peter Mbithi appointed Chair of ESDA Consortium during TICAD VI

The University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter M.F. Mbithi has been appointed chair of ESDA Consortium. The election which took place during the last ESDA conference in Kumasi, Ghana saw Prof. Mbithi win unanimously. The President of the Consortium was to take over in August during the TICAD VI Conference.

 

The new Chair was inaugurated by Professor Takeuchi, Senior Vice Rector of United Nations University in Tokyo on August 28, 2016 during the TICAD VI Conference held at KICC.  Prof. Mbithi has taken over from Prof. Simukanga formerly the Vice Chancellor of Zambia and currently the Director of Higher Education in Zambia.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi, presented a landmark paper on “Catalyzing the Next Generation for Africa’s Sustainable Industrialization”

ESDA is a consortium that runs Sustainable Integrated Rural Development Africa (SIRDA), Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) and Mining and Mineral Resources (MMR) in universities in Africa. The Sustainable Urban Development program runs in the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University. The University of Nairobi implements the program in its curriculum in 2014.

The ESDA Programs offers unique features such as Joint program ownership and implementation by leading African universities, improving the existing postgraduate programs by combining strengths of partner universities rather than creating a totally new program based on ‘external’ models, Emphasis on Field-oriented training designed to strengthen problem-solving capacities and inter-personal work skills, Intentional use of Information and communication technology among others.
