Dr. David Githanga, President, Rotaract Club of Nairobi with Acting Registrar, Academic division, Mr. B.M. Waweru after the meeting at the UoN towers on Tue, April 11, 2017
Six students from the University of Nairobi have been selected and will benefit from the scholarship opportunities sponsored by the RotaryClub of Nairobi.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. David Githanga, President, Rotary Club of Nairobi noted that in future, they will sponsor more students and encouraged bright, needy students to apply and benefit from the scholarship opportunities.
Prof. Godfrey Muriuki, Special Students Advisor observed that few students applied for the scholarships. He urged more students from humble backgrounds to take the opportunity in the future. He observed that only regular students who have excellent academic records and have not benefited from any other scholarships were selected. Students who pursue parallel degree programs were disqualified from the scholarship.
According to Johnson Kinyua, Director, University Advancement, student mobilization efforts like the use of posters, approaching students via Deans, Directors and College Registrars and through events need to be embraced to create awareness of the scholarship opportunities.
Acting Registrar, Academic Division, Mr. B. M. Waweru, urged the Rotary Club of Nairobi to borrow a leaf from HELB and consider sponsoring parallel students who are bright and needy for the scholarship opportunities. He observed that the Memorandum guiding the scholarship arranged could be amended to allow such students to apply in the future.
