11th CASE Africa Conference at the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi

The 11th Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Africa conference kicked off on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016 at the Fairview Hotel.

The three-day Conference that the University of Nairobi is Co-hosting with Strathmore University is Africa’s largest annual gathering of professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing on behalf of educational institutions.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, Prof. Isaac Mbeche said that senior management of the University have attended the CASE Africa Conference and Academies in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, USA and Europe. That exposure and experience is what made the University of Nairobi to create a Directorate of University Advancement in 2013 which was operationalised in 2015. From this exposure, the University of Nairobi has also been a beneficiary of the annual “American Fundraising Model in New York” hosted by King Baudoin Foundation of USA.

The main objective of this conference is how to resource Universities through best practices and models of resources mobilization, marketing and communication strategies with alumni, governments, private sectors, philanthropists and well wishers.

Prof. Mbeche implored those in attendance at the conference saying,  “University fundraising and resources mobilization is relationship building and networking. Financial and in kind resources follow good and well nurtured relationships. Once the relationships are created, maintained and nurtured, resources follow automatically. This can take a year, five years, ten years and even 50 years before donations come in but the important thing is to start.”

CASE is a US based international organization that supports Universities, Schools and Non-profit organizations in capacity building through training, quarterly newsletters and other relevant materials for professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing.

The conference has brought together Vice Chancellors, Alumni of different institutions, Distinguished CASE Faculty among others.
