The Chinese Embassy through the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme has awarded 20 scholarships to bright but needy University of Nairobi students.
The scholarships were presented to the students by the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Liu Xianfa in a ceremony held at the University on November 14, 2016.

University of Nairobi and Hokkaido University have commenced discussions on collaboration majorly on student exchange.
Hokkaido University is one of the oldest and biggest Universities in Japan, with 12 undergraduate schools and 18 graduate schools.
This was said when the Vice President of Hokkaido University, Prof. Hiroaki Terao paid a courtesy call on the University of Nairobi Vice chancellor on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
Prof. Henry Mutoro, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi said that the University of Nairobi is among the best universities in Africa and would like to be associated with other top universities in the world. He said that internationalization is among the objectives of the University management and through such collaborations, it will soon be attained.
Prof. Hiroaki Terao, Vice President of Hokkaido University said that the two institutions should engage in student and researchers exchange. He said that an MoU should be soon drafted and signed with details of how the two institutions can benefit from each other using the resources available.He however urged the UoN team to take advantage of the 10 years Japanese government scholarship program that is available for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The University of Nairobi and Washington State University through their existing MoU have won a 3.4M US Dollars per year for a 5-year grant.
This was announced during a meeting held in the office of the Vice Chancellor, UoN between officials of the Washington State University and UoN on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
The grant has been won through a joint application where Washington State University is the leader and UoN through its Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) is partner.
The grant is a public health grant and was highly competitive.

The University of Nairobi has entered into discussions and for possible collaborations with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
KAIST is the 6th most innovative University in the world and seeks collaboration through its global Information Technology Telecommunication Programme ( ITTP) course and Global Commercialization Centre.
The Uon-KAIST collaboration would be for creating innovation centres in the University, Research & Development facilities, fabrication labs and commercialization, and would assist the university to develop capacity for locally- developed technology and collaboration in setting up University and R&D facilities in Konza Technopolis.

The Minister of State Development and Francophonie, Hon. Andre Vallini, on Friday, August 26, 2016 through the Sub- department of French at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) delivered a public lecture as well as paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor.
Hon. Andre Vallini interacted with the University of Nairobi students who are studying French. The French Minister said that the main objective of the interaction with the students and his visit is to expand the study and the use of French. He said his role as a Minister is to defend and promote francophonie not only in French-speaking countries but also English-speaking ones.

The University of Nairobi and the University of Helsinki renewed their partnership during a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor’s on Thursday, August 18, 2016.
The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) came after consultations and meetings with the various UoN college principals that the University of Helsinki has been working with. Further, the MOU has been expanded in scope to include other departments and institutes, key among them Institute of Climate change and adaptation.
