4500 graduands feted in lively celebrations

There was pomp and colour as the University of Nairobi marked the 44th Graduation, on Friday 03, 2010. The congregation witnessed the award of diplomas and conferment of degrees to more than 4,561 graduands who were mainly from the Colleges of Health Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences. The awards were as follows: diploma awards, 276, bachelors 2,892, postgraduate diploma 58, masters 1,299 and Ph D 18.  The highest number of graduands came from the School of Business and the Faculty of Arts, who jointly presented more than half of the students.

Those who addressed the congregation included the Chancellor, Dr. Joseph Wanjui, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha and the Chairman of Council, Mr. John Simba.  Others included a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology, Dr. Salome Gachura and a valedictorian of the congregation Mr. El Busaidy Hemed, a graduate of Human Anatomy.

The Chancellor urged students to maintain discipline and improve the corporate image of the University.  The Vice-Chancellor on his part requested for more capitation from the government to help the university in meeting rising costs p

articularly in relation to the payroll. He also thanked the media, particularly Citizen T.V, for live the transmission of UoN's graduation ceremonies for the last eight years.

Few students from the other four colleges who did not graduate in September also took part in the ceremony.
