Visit to Stellenbosch University Centre for Health Professions Education and MEPI Programme

From Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th September 2014 The Principal College of Health Sciences Prof. Isaac Kibwage, the Principal Investigator PRIME-K Prof. James Kiarie and the Aim 1 lead Dr. Kefa Bosire visited the Stellenbosch University Centre for Health Professions (CHPE) Education and MEPI Programme (SURMEPI).

Specifically the team held meetings with members of Faculty management, Centre for Health Professions Education and SURMEPI management committee.

In the introductory meeting, Prof. Marietjie de Villiers, the Deputy Dean Education gave overview of Stellenbosch University and Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Isaac Kibwage Principal College of Health Sciences then gave an overview of the University of Nairobi and College of Health Sciences.

Subsequently the team held detailed discussion with members of the CHPE led by Prof. Ben van Heerden the center Director about the CHPE and about the MPhil in Health Professions Education at Stellenbosch University. 

The team also visited the Clinical Skills Centre, Research Grants support centre and the e learning initiatives centre.

At the closing meeting Prof Kiarie, PI PRIME-K presented on University of Nairobi Health Professionals Education Initiatives supported by MEPI.  In the meeting the team agreed to have joint grant writing, sponsorship of UoN faculty for the MPhil MPhil in Health Professions Education and exchange of external examiners.

On Saturday the team had an opportunity to visit the University’s rural training centre and to tour the beautiful countryside.
