The University of Nairobi comprises the following six colleges located in different campuses in the city.
College of Architecture and Engineering
The College of Architecture and Engineering (CAE) has a long history within the region, with a strong tradition of quality training and resource development in the specialized areas of engineering technology, the built environment, design and Nuclear Science Technology.
The goal of training is to facilitate professionals to embrace critical thinking and creativity as mode of research in responding to needs of local and international community.

College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences
The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) is located off Kapenguria Road, 15 Kms to the Northwest of Nairobi. CAVS research and outreach activities are focused around global, regional and national concerns and are leveraged on national goals as articulated in vision 2030 and regional and global guidelines namely Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These research programs continue to grow and are clearly setting CAVS at a higher level in comparison to the other Agricultural institutions in the region. This has not come by chance but due to the academic staff commitment towards research excellence, teamwork, attitude shift and realignment towards multidisciplinary and trans disciplinarily have greatly contributed to this success.

The College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS) clearly recognizes its leadership role in teaching, research and product development in basic and applied sciences. Located in Chiromo Campus, CBPS is a leading institution in teaching and research in science, technology and innovations.

The College of Education and External Studies (CEES) has a long history playing a key role in the training of teachers in the region. Located in Kikuyu Town, the College trains graduate teachers for secondary schools and tertiary education institutions.

The College is committed to training of high caliber healthcare professionals and innovative researchers in emerging health challenges and its professionals are at the forefront of the national health policy formulation.
As a result of this remarkable contribution, more than 50% of healthcare professionals and researchers in the health sciences in Kenya have been trained at the college. This has earned the college a reputation of a leading institution in training of high caliber healthcare professionals in the Eastern and Central African region.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is the largest College of the University with over fifty percent of the total student enrolment and staff. The College operates in several locations namely, Main, Parklands, Lower Kabete, Mombasa and Kisumu campuses and at the National Museum. The faculties, schools, institutes and centres offer a wide array of academic and research programmes.
