After 7 years since the internal CBA 2017-2021 proposal was approved, the University of Nairobi Management officially launched the negotiations with the Unions representatives on Monday, August 12, 2024.

In a morning meeting that was chaired by the Ag Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret J. Hutchinson, in what she termed as her first assignment, It was revealed that the council had approved for negotiations to take place considering the counter proposals by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the financial status of the University.

In her speech, Prof. Hutchinson painted the picture of the financial status of the University while acknowledging the importance of a healthy and a motivated workforce. She underscored the urgency of the University to enhance its resource mobilization.

‘I can’t overemphasize on the benefits of a good working environment and mutual benefits that comes with increased productivity and motivation. Public universities negotiate house allowance and basic salaries within the National CBAs and as allowed by the SRC,’ announced the Ag Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Chair of the Joint Negotiation, Prof. Ayub Gitau speaking during the launch.

Chairs of the different unions all expressed hope that the negotiations will take the shortest time possible because of the overlapping CBA in tow.

Prayers for `full disclosure, transparency, mutual respect, good faith, and an unbiased negotiation season were made.

UoN Management secretariat led by the Ag Registrar Administration, Mr. Ken Sawe, UASU Leadership, KUSU Leadership, KUDHEIHA Leadership were present during the launch.
