Japanese Government scholarship programme for 2019


The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship programme for 2019 is now open. We would like to inform you that we will be holding two seminars in order to share more information on the scholarship. The details are as follows:

Date: Wednesday 2nd & Saturday 5th May 2018

Wednesday May 2, 2018 Time: 2:00p.m– 4:00p.m.

Saturday May 5, 2018 10.00am - 12.00 noon

Venue: Japan Information & Culture Centre, Embassy of Japan, Mara Road, Upper Hill

Kindly note that in order for one to attend the seminar, registration is required. To register, kindly, send an email to or call 020-2898513.

When registering, please provide us with your name, ID no. and contact details. In addition to this, kindly specify the day you would like to attend the seminar.

Deadline for registration for the Wednesday day seminar is Friday, 27th May 2018 at 4:00pm while the registration deadline for the Saturday seminar is Thursday, 4th May at 4:00pm.

To all students: Attendance of classes

The University Senate meeting held on 16th April 2018 reviewed the status of teaching and learning at the University.  It was noted that good progress has been made towards resumption and attendance of classes at various Colleges in spite of the interruption by the striking staff.
The purpose of this circular is therefore to request you to continue availing yourselves for learning at your respective classes without fail.
Please note that classes will proceed as scheduled and there will be no makeup class for students who do not attend their lectures as required. Class attendance will be taken.
The University would like to commend all students for maintaining peace.

The African Development Bank and the Nairobi Innovation Week High 5s Startup Challenge
Startups from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia are eligible to apply
The Nairobi Innovation Week organizing committee is pleased to announce that we have partnered with the African Development Bank to run a joint startup challenge that will focus on the Bank’s High 5 priorities. The competition is dubbed High 5s Startup Challenge. The 5 thematic areas of focus are;
❖    Light up and power Africa
❖    Feed Africa
❖    Industrialize Africa
❖    Integrate Africa
❖    Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.
Startups from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia are eligible to apply. The startups should however focus on at least one of the 5 thematic areas of the banks five priorities. Startups with an inclination towards energy production and distribution are encouraged to apply since they focus on the High 5s. Startups in sustainable food production and agri-business fall under Feed Africa pillar while others in industrialization and mobility of people fall under Industrialize and Integrate Africa respectively. Lastly, startups that empower the community will fall under the Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa pillar.

Application for the Nairobi Rotary Club Scholarship

Applications are invited for the Rotary Club of Nairobi Scholarships for Bright and financially needy undergraduate Government sponsored students, students and post graduate students in all commercial courses including: Business, Economics, Law, Computer Science, Acturial Science, Journalism, and other business related courses.
Applicants should meet the following criteria;
1.       Registered needy students.
2.       Excellent academic record.
3.       Individual of impeccable character.
4.       Non-beneficiary of any other scholarship in the previous academic year.
5.       Regular students of the University of Nairobi.
6.       Commitment to enroll and actively participate in any ROTARACT Club.
Applications should be made on the relevant application form, which can be accessed on the website. Applicants are required to attach copies of the national and university identity cards, certified death certificates (if any) and academic transcripts.
The duly filled application forms should then be delivered to the Office of the Special Student Advisor Main campus, Gandhi Wing Ground Floor, Room G8 before Monday, January 22, 2018, at 4.00 PM.
