UoN Vice-Chancellor appointed head of AAU

June 2,2011: The Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Prof. George A.O Magoha was elected the President of the Association of African Universities (AAU), during the General Conference  of Rectors, Vice-Chancellors and Principals  (COREVIP) held at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Prof  Magoha first joined the Executive Board of AAU in February, 2005 immediately after his appointment as Vice-Chancellor  of the University of Nairobi, at the  general conference of the AAU held in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2009, Professor  Magoha was elected the first Vice President of the AAU to represent the larger  Eastern Africa region, during  the General Conference  held in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Prof Magoha is a consultant  Urological Surgeon  both at the  Kenyatta National and Nairobi Hospitals in Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently the Chairman of various local professional bodies including the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, The Kenya Education Network (KENET) and the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS), among others.

Prof. Magoha has published widely in peer-reviewed  publications and supervised to completion over 40 Master of Medicine (Surgery) students. He is a member of many professional bodies in urology and surgery and is actively involved in research in male erectile dysfunction, prostate, testicular and penile cancers, circumcision and HIV/AIDS. He is a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS) and Kenya National Academy of Sciences (FKNAS).

Prof. Magoha is married to Dr. Barbara O. Magoha and together they are blessed with a son, Dr. Michael Magoha.
