30 UoN PhD candidates receive Scholarships through RSIF Programme
ICIPE has awarded scholarships to 30 PhD students at the University of Nairobi under the Africa Regional Scholarships and Innovations Funds for Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (RFIS) program.
This was revealed by Dr. Everlyn Nguku, Director of Capacity Building at ICIPE, when she paid a courtesy call on Prof. Kiama Gitahi, the Vice Chancellor of UoN. The University of Nairobi's Department of Physics is one of the centres of excellence for Institutional capacity building and sustainable doctoral training.
The University was selected by the World Bank and partnership for skills in applied Sciences to train PhD students on Energy including renewables. The program seeks to support training of 10,000 PhDs in Applied Sciences Engineering and Technology. The training encompasses both academia and industry mentorship to produce graduates with entrepreneurship skills.
ICIPE manages the grant on behalf of 23 International partner Institutions including IDA, Korea Institute of Technology and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Now you know where to register for PhD in Energy including renewables.
Following a competitive selection process by the World Bank and Partnership for skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET) in 2018, International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) was awarded the grant project “Africa Regional Scholarships and Innovations Fund (RSIF) for Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology Project” funded by the International Development Association (IDA)and mandated to manage the administrative and financial management functions of RSIF by the Governance council of PASET.
ICIPE is responsible for the management of the three RSIF windows and managing and growing the RSIF permanent and general funds. The objective of this project is to strengthen the institutional capacity for quality and sustainable doctoral training, research innovation in transformative technologies. The RSIF shall contribute to the training of approximately 10,000 PhDs in ASET in 10 years and build capacity of African Universities to train these future core PhD’s and spot them beyond their training as they go to academia, industry to become entrepreneurs.
The University of Nairobi was chosen as the African Host University in the thematic area “Energy Including Renewables” by the PASET Executive Board meeting of 24th April 2019. RSIF currently has a total number of 23 International Partner Institutions (IPI). The University of Nairobi has signed with various IPIs including Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, Korean Institute of Energy Research (KIER) among others.
