The University of Nairobi's Kisumu Campus was honoured by a visit by a delegation led by the  Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Jesang Hutchinson, on Thursday, 27th March 2025.

During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor held a town hall where key academic and administrative issues were discussed. The discussions revolved around student affairs, infrastructural improvements, finance, and performance management.

Prof Hutchinson underscored the university's commitment to fostering strong governance and engaging the university community, including the satelite campuses.

The Vice-chancellor who was accompanied by the acting Chief Operations Officer Brian Ouma, acting Dean, Faculty of Business Studies and Management Sciences, and senior administrative staff expressed her joy for the maiden visit to the lakeside campus.

While welcoming the delegation, Associate Dean, Professor Charles Rambo, led the team on a campus tour, showcasing the university’s facilities: library, computer laboratory, Faculty offices and the Moot Court.

Prof. Rambo assured the Vice-chancellor that the campus was ready to receive full-time students should the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central  Placement Services (KUCCPS) admit them.

He expressed gratitude to the university management for deploying Bernard  Njuguna, a senior and experienced administrator, to the campus as the Registrar. He acknowledged that Mr. Njuguna had brought a fresh administrative perspective to the campus and had already initiated collaborations with key organisations that would elevate the campus to greater heights. He conveyed Mr. Njuguna’s regards as he was on leave

Staff and students were excited to have a one-on-one interaction with top university management.

Responding to the issues affecting service delivery,  the Vice-Chancellor directed that the process of repairing the Lifts commences immediately.

She also confirmed that some 500 module I students for Law and Business Studies were expected at the campus in September this year.

She assured staff that the promotion of qualified personnel was a priority for management.

A team from the Directorate of Planning and Performance Management took the staff and students through the University Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and the impact assessment of the performance management process, a key ingredient to the Performance Contract implementation. Staff had an opportunity to air their views and suggestions for areas of improvement.

The revitalised University's Vision was reiterated:  'A globally competitive University transforming society.
