Youth Enterpreneurship Forum at TICAD VI

The University of Nairobi in partnership with Ministry of Youth, Gender and Public Service, Africa Development Bank and United Nations University, Tokyo, co-hosted the TICAD Youth Entrepreneurship Forum.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe and President of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta graced the occasion.  The Conference was attended by 34 Presidents and Heads of Governments with over 10,000 delegates in attendance.

 

CEES hosts 8th Pan African Reading for All Conference

The College of Education and External Studies (CEES) recently hosted the 8th Pan African Reading for All (PARFA) Conference at the Kenya Science Campus. Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, officially kicked off the two day event which takes place every two years and represents the largest and most prestigious international literacy conference in Africa.

In his remarks, Prof. Kaimenyi commended the University for being actively involved in literacy development in the African continent and diligently making recommendations that will contribute to the realization of Kenya’s Vision 2030.

Teacher education and development in Africa: the need for access, equity, sustainability, quality and relevance within the context of globalization

Background:

Expanding education and improving its quality is central to the development of Africa. If we want to realize the goal of quality education for all, faculties of education in Africa need to take the lead in finding African solutions to our educational challenges. One of the ways of doing this is to meet to share our knowledge with one another.

World renowned educationists have already accepted invitations to act as keynote speakers and panellists. These educationists include Prof Asha Kanwar, President of the Commonwealth of Learning, Prof Bakary Diallo, Rector of the African Virtual University, Prof Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Executive Chair of Teacher Education for Sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA), and Prof Bob Moon of the Research Group on International Development in Teacher Education. Regional Economic Outlook launched at UoN

For the third consecutive time, the University of Nairobi, School of Economics hosted the launch ceremony for the annual Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Education Theatre II, yesterday 22 October, 2012.

2012 EFMD Africa Conference held at School of Business

The University of Nairobi School of Business and Strathmore Business School co-hosted the 3rd European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) Africa Conference that drew participants from local and international top business schools. The theme for the conference was “Sustainable Business Education Appropriate for Africa.”

Dr. Manu Chandaria, Chairman, Comcraft Group, challenged participants to instill business and entrepreneurial skills in their business students and to equip them to fill glaring gaps in Africa’s business environment. In his presentation on ‘The role of business schools in Africa’, Dr. Chandaria shared his family’s business success story and the role education plays in business. His passion for entrepreneurship is felt through the Chandaria Foundation which is sponsoring innovation and incubation centres and setting up business schools in Kenya.

1st International Scientific Conference Concludes Successfully

The College of Health Sciences successfully organized and hosted its 1st International Scientific Conference from 15th-17th June 2011 whose theme was: “Towards Optimum Health Care”.   
 
The biannual event brought together seasoned and upcoming scientists; and diverse health care practitioners from different nationalities who participated in activities such as oral and poster presentations of their original research work, plenary talks, and symposia.
