The Centre for Human Rights and Peace (CHRP), University of Nairobi was established with the mission to provide a conducive environment for scholarly articulation of wisdom, beliefs, values and ideals of humanity with a focus on how these may contribute to the quest for a just, peaceful and prosperous world. 

In fulfilling this mission, the CHRP has organised a colloquium on 21st May from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The theme of this colloquium is: 'The Language of Morality and Morality in Language: Reflections on African Sexualities.' This colloquium is part of the broad theme: African Sexualities: Traditions, Perspectives and Human Rights and aims at:

  • Bringing together diverse range of linguistic experts, clergy, human rights advocates, policy makers, and media practitioners to discuss African sexualities.  
  • Evaluating available linguistic, legal, social and cultural frameworks on African sexualities especially the place of sexual and gender minorities in Kenya. 
  • Identifying and creating synergy among institutions to safeguard sexual and gender minority rights in Kenya.
