On Friday, February 23rd, 2024,  a group of alumni from the University of Nairobi, who graduated between 1971 and 1975, visited the University. The alumni,  from Kenya, Uganda, Canada, and Kisumu, expressed their nostalgia for the university, which they considered their home for four years during their studies. Led by Mr. Salim Hasham, the team of 22 members shared anecdotes from their time at the university and discussed potential areas of collaboration and partnership with the institution, both presently and in the future.

During the visit, a university the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof. Leonida Kerubo stated, "Your return to our esteemed university is a significant moment for us all. Your accomplishments over half a century ago stand as a testament to the caliber of the University of Nairobi. We are proud to see you as outstanding ambassadors of our institution, representing us not only in Kenya but globally, thereby enhancing our university's reputation on the global stage."

Reflecting on the changes since their departure many years ago, the representative noted several advancements, including program expansions, technological integration, research and innovation initiatives, a substantial increase in student population and faculty members, as well as the appointment of new administrative figures such as the Chancellor.

The alumni were then taken on a comprehensive campus tour, allowing them to revisit familiar landmarks and witness the evolution of the university firsthand. They explored the state-of-the-art facilities, including laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology, modernized lecture halls, and newly established research centers. The tour also highlighted the university's commitment to sustainability, with the implementation of eco-friendly practices across campus and the incorporation of green spaces for relaxation and recreation.

Among the highlights of the tour was a visit to the university's renowned research centers, where groundbreaking studies were being conducted in various fields, ranging from health sciences to renewable energy. The alumni were impressed by the level of innovation and the impactful research being carried out by both students and faculty members. 

Among those present during the visit were Mr. Bernard Njuguna, Registrar Administration; Mr. John Orindi, Director Corporate Affairs; Mr. Morgan Kiptum; and Anna Asei, Director and Vice Chair of the University of Nairobi Alumni Association, respectively.
