UoN recognized Exemplary Staff
The Department of Medical microbiology and immunology emerged the best department overall in the performance contract for Financial Year 2021/2022 while the Faculty of Business and Management Science emerged the best Faculty; The Directorate of Information and Communication Technology was the best Directorate in Central Units.
This was revealed when the University held its annual Staff Performance and Recognition Award Ceremony on Monday, 5th December 2022.
While delivering his remarks, the Vice Chancellor congratulated all staff for a great improvement in the 2021/2022 Performance contract period. He appreciated and made special mention to Prof. Walter Jaoko for spearheading the O3 plus project that has been effective and continues impacting students’ lives, Prof. Alice Odingo on Gender mainstreaming, Abdisalam Tuka for going the extra mile in serving through ICT, Jared Ongaro, for developing the SOMA Platform for e-learning, Ms Damaris Kavoi in implementing Financial reforms, Mr. Paul Kairuki, the ICT director for leading the ICT team in various innovations, Mr. Zadock Opole, the Halls Manager and Mr. Johnson Kinyua, the Dean of Students.”
As she witnessed the signing of the PC for the year 2022/2023, The Chair of Council, Prof. Miriam Were urged departments to focus on their core mandates, “I want to encourage the University of Nairobi Staff to give greater attention to performance indicators on the core mandate. Special focus should be on the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Mainstreaming. Targets for such indicators, relating to research and dissemination of research findings are not only critical for national development but also contribute to the good global ranking of our university.”
“Let me also take the earliest opportunity to congratulate staff who have been identified and earmarked to receive awards this afternoon. Staff recognition and rewards can be used to provide incentives and boost staff morale in the execution of their targets.”
On his part, the Chief Operations Officer also congratulated the staff for an improved performance and spoke about people reforms that are currently being implemented at the University.
Over 500 members of staff were recognized through Staff Performance Appraisal, Research and Innovation, Long-serving Category and special categories for staff who showcased the values of Care, Freedom of thought and expression and expression of Trust.
