Re-engineered HRMIS to improve HR processes
The re-engineered University of Nairobi’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) has been launched.
Presiding over the online launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, highlighted the challenges the newly re-engineered will address.
“Re-engineering this system has been a journey. I am happy that we used the system in processing the June 2020 salaries. I applaud all the members of staff involved in this process,” he said. “It will bring in the element of accountability which is important. Managing the human resource issues in the University will now be easy.”
Paul Kariuki, ag. Director, ICTC presented highlights of the system.
“The system allows for real time capturing and updating of staff details, tracking of staff employment, automatic alerts for retirement and contract expiry, improved efficiency in payroll processing, facilitates the flow of information, consistence of data in all modules and categorization of staff which enables different reports to be generated easily among other features,” he revealed.
According to Dr. Carol Chepkoech, ag. Deputy Director, Management Information Systems, the objectives of re-engineering the HRMIS were to ensure record correctness through integration of workflows that change HR data, tightly couple HR records and payroll, fully deploy payroll processing to salaries and moderate the system to use current technologies
Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance, Planning and Development said that an efficient payroll system is based on accurate data of the staff and that the system would do just that.
“It will also assist us manage our resources as salaries take a large proportion of the UoN budget. The re-engineering process is very timely,” she said. “Currently the system serves only the UoN mainstream employees, with time, it will cater for other sections such as the Alumni Association and CHUNA Sacco.”
Prof. Enos Njeru, DVC, Human Resource and Administration said that the system will carry data of all UoN employees. “HRMIS is central to UoN therefore other systems in the university will be aligned to it,” he said.
Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs commended the team involved in the re-engineering process.
Hannah Mukua ag. Deputy Registrar, Personnel, said that they system will highlight key HR issues within the university. “This has been an emotional journey for me and I am glad to see us finally launching it,” she said. “This system will help the university manage the human resource processes better in our long term goal to achieve world class excellence.”
