Students pursuing veterinary sciences will benefit from a collaboration between the University of Nairobi and Cosmos Pharmaceutical following the signing of a collaborative agreement.

The collaboration of mutual cooperation will revolve around developing academic and cultural exchanges and scientific research projects.  The two institutions shall support of teaching and research through drug and equipment donations, joint research, innovation, enterprise and community outreach activities, provision of co-branded teaching and research aids and materials to staff and students, attachment placement and mentorship of students, participation of the annual UoN prize giving programme and participation in scientific conferences and academic meetings.

“This is an initiative that we commit to support and implement as an institution,” said Vice-chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama. “Industry exposure is very important for students and that is why we are keen on such partnerships.”

On his part, the Director and Head of Business Development at Cosmos Pharmaceutical, Alakh Patel said that the collaboration will be of mutual benefit to both organizations.

“Innovation has been at the forefront of the company’s agenda and this collaboration, the research, will open up opportunities for developing the latest treatments and the new straits that we could develop treatment for,” he said. “The global trend is that pharmaceutical companies have close ties with universities and I am glad that we have entered into this collaboration today.”

The collaboration agreement was signed on February 21, 2022 in the Vice-chancellor’s boardroom.
