EASTECOPLOSUniversity of NairobiNational Commission for Science Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI)Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), and TCC Africa, are converging for a hybrid workshop on ‘Open Science and Open Access Principles and Practices in Eastern African Community Partner States’. This dialogue marks the second in a series of national-level conversations on Open Science following the initial regional meeting with the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO). aimed at advocating for its implementation in East Africa, with the first one being held in February in Tanzania.

 

The initiative has been an ongoing effort by the organizers- Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa), the Public Library of Science (PLOS), and the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) to ensure that national conversations on Open Science are represented in the regional STI policy.

The National Commission for Science Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI  ), is set to lead a high-level Open Science round table in the event that is expected to bring together key stakeholders from the higher education sector creating a platform for collaborative knowledge exchange in charting the path towards the adoption of an Open Science ecosystem in Kenya.

The goal

To enhance acceptance and adoption of Open Science and open access principles and practices for increased socioeconomic development and regional integration of the East African Partner States.

The objective

To widen and deepen the application of open science and open access principles and practices in the EAC regional Science Technology and Innovation system for enhanced production, dissemination, adoption and use of scientific data and information
