ERASMUS+ STUDENT MOBILITY ANNOUNCEMENT KA171

The University of Nairobi,  Erasmus+ Institutional Coordination Office has announced the call for applications for Erasmus+ KA171 (Student Mobility for Countries Not Associated to the Programme).

Applications will be accepted only online between 10th September , 2026 and 25th September, 2026 through the International@uonbi.ac.ke email address.

It is important that all required documents are uploaded to the system, or that the related documents are provided according to the institution’s procedures within the application period. If the mandatory documents listed below are not uploaded, the application will be considered invalid.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. To be a full-time student enrolled in an associate, bachelor’s, master’s (with or without thesis), or doctoral program at University of Nairobi.
2. Applicants must have completed at least one academic semester in their associate, bachelor’s, master’s (with or without thesis), or doctoral program.
3. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.20/4.0 or 58/100 for associate and bachelor’s students, and 2.50/4.0 or 65/100 for master’s and doctoral students.
   
   1. For students transferring from an associate degree, the associate degree graduation GPA must be at least 2.20/4.0 or 58/100.
   2.  For students transferring from a bachelor’s to a master’s program, the bachelor’s graduation GPA must be at least 2.20/4.0 or 58/100.
   3. For students transferring from a master’s to a doctoral program, the master’s graduation           GPA must be at least 2.50/4.0 or 65/100.

If a student has already benefited from Erasmus+ student mobility activities within their current study program (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral), the total duration of all mobility activities combined must not exceed 12 months. A student can receive funding for up to 12 months in total for Erasmus study mobility within the same level of study (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral).
6. Recent graduates are allowed to benefit from the student traineeship mobility activity. This means that students who apply for the traineeship program while still enrolled may carry out their internship mobility within 1 year after their graduation, for a duration of 2 to 12 months. If a student wishes to benefit from the traineeship mobility after graduation, they must have applied and been selected for the traineeship call while still a student. Applications submitted after graduation are not accepted.
7. Students who have temporarily suspended their enrollment (leave of absence) cannot participate in study mobility or (mandatory/optional) internships during the period their enrollment is suspended. However, they are allowed to apply for study or internship mobility during the suspension period.

It is preferable that the applications come from the departments specified in the inter-institutional agreement; however, in the absence of applications from these departments, other departments may be added upon consultation with NEU.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The evaluation criteria have been determined according to the Erasmus+ Handbook for Higher Education Institutions published by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for EU Affairs, National Agency for EU Education and Youth Programmes (Türkiye National Agency).

* The applicant must submit the Disability Health Board Report specified in the Regulation on Disability Assessment for Adults.

** Internships involving one or more of the following activities will be considered eligible: digital marketing (e.g. social media management, web analytics); digital, mechanical, or architectural design; application, software, or website development; installation, maintenance, and management of information systems and networks; cybersecurity; data analytics, data mining, and data visualization; programming; robotics; and artificial intelligence training. Internships that mainly consist of general customer services, lead generation, data entry, or routine office tasks will not be considered eligible.

• A “-10 point” deduction for previous participation is not applied to mobilities carried out at a different level of study or to mobilities other than higher education student or traineeship mobility. It applies only if a student who has already participated in a mobility at the same level of study applies again.
• A “-10 point” deduction is applied for each mobility activity that a student was selected for in a previous call within the same level of study but did not carry out without a valid (force majeure) reason. Higher education institutions are expected to set a deadline for students to officially declare their withdrawal. If students submit their withdrawal within this specified period, the point deduction will not be applied.
• If the higher education institution conducts the selection process for study and traineeship mobility within the same application and evaluation period, the following rules apply: if a student who has not previously benefited from any mobility applies simultaneously for both study and traineeship mobility, a “-10 point” deduction will be applied, and the student may choose to which activity the deduction will apply. In this case, the student must submit a written statement indicating the activity for which they prefer the deduction to be applied. If a student who has previously benefited from a mobility applies simultaneously for both study and traineeship mobility, a “-10 point” deduction will be applied for the same type of mobility previously undertaken, and a “-20 point” deduction will be applied for the second type of mobility. The deductions are applied to the student’s total score.
• Students enrolled in a double major program may apply for mobility from only one major during the same application period.
• In case of a tie in the total score among applicants, priority is given to staff members who have not previously benefited from the program. If the tie still persists, priority is given respectively to those with a higher foreign language score, longer duration of service at Necmettin Erbakan University, and longer duration of public service.

Travel Grant

For the calculation of travel distance, the distance calculator provided by the European Commission, which is responsible for the implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme, will be used. Status of Zero-Grant Students

Students may participate in the activity without receiving a grant if they wish. To benefit from the activity without a grant, students must still submit an application, which will be evaluated together with other applications. The only difference for zero-grant students is that they are not included in the budget calculations and do not receive any payment. The fact that a student does not receive a grant is not a reason for exclusion from the selection process.

Additional Grant for Students with Disabilities

Participants with disabilities who take part in the Erasmus Programme may receive an additional grant to support their specific needs, in addition to the standard.
