UoN and Transsion Holdings Explore Collaboration Opportunities
The University of Nairobi (UoN) hosted Mr. George Zhu, Chairman and Founder of Transsion Holdings Company Limited, for an engagement focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI), technology, research, innovation and talent development on Saturday, 26th September, 2026.
Transsion Holdings is the parent company of leading technology brands including TECNO, Infinix, itel and Carlcare, among others, with a strong presence across Africa and other emerging markets. The company’s technology ecosystem increasingly leverages Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies to enhance smart devices, digital products, services and user experiences.
During his visit, Mr. Zhu engaged with UoN’s innovation and research ecosystem, including the Department of Computing, C4DLab, the Africa Media Innovation Lab (AMILAB), and Afya Innovation Lab, as well as students and researchers from different faculties. The discussions provided an opportunity to explore how the University’s growing capabilities in AI and emerging technologies can connect with industry expertise to support research, innovation and the development of practical solutions.
The engagement also highlighted the University’s growing pool of AI talent, including students pursuing the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Computing and Informatics. Students from different faculties participated in the discussions, reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary application of AI across areas such as healthcare, agriculture, engineering, business and other sectors.
Discussions explored potential opportunities for collaborative research, student engagement, mentorship, internships, talent development, innovation and technology entrepreneurship, connecting UoN’s academic and innovation ecosystem with Transsion’s global technology experience.
Mr. Zhu expressed his commitment to supporting impactful engagement between Transsion Holdings, its various companies and the University of Nairobi, paving the way for further discussions on concrete areas of collaboration.
